Starting your first game in Stardew Valley you will find yourself in a predicament to choose a good farm name, a pet to acquire, a hobby, an outfit, and most of all a farm layout. Here I will review every farm layout available in Stardew Valley 1.3 so that you can have a glimpse on what farm layout you want to choose before starting you first Stardew Valley adventure.
Standard Farm, the standard farm is made up of wide tillable soils with a small watering pond in the right side of your farm near your house and a medium sized pond in the center-bottom part. This farm is all about farming as this gives you an opportunity to plant a lot of crops while also gives a considerable amount of space for your buildings. It is the most ideal farm if your aim is to grow and sell crops for profit and the second best farm you could ever choose. Because of how the layout of the standard farm is laid, it is not recommended if you want to challenge yourself playing Stardew Valley on your first try since it is relatively boring compared to other farm layouts.
Riverland Farm, this farm layout is most likely the best for you if you aim to become a fisherman in Stardew Valley since as the name suggests, it is mostly made up of bodies of water. Although ‘catchy’ in its own accord, fishing in Stardew Valley can be done anywhere outside the farm and there is really no benefit as to the player since only River Fishes can be caught no matter where you fish in this farm layout. The riverland farm is by far the most challenging farm layout since the area of tillable soils are scattered in small areas located in between rivers that can be seen in the farm. This farm is annoying especially during the first day or week because of almost never ending maze of obstacles like trees, rocks, stumps and weeds that are present which prevent you from planting huge crops (the most viable money maker early in the game). Riverland Farm is a fun, harder layout for beginners in Stardew Valley and is rank the fifth among all five farm layout.
Forest Farm, this farm, let me tell you, the best farm in the game, hands down. The forest farm excels on foraging which is beneficial especially during the early game as it gives you free energy. Although the woods area on the whole left side of the farm and green areas that are not tillable decreases the overall farming size, there are still a fairly good amount of tillable soils for your crops to grow. Utilizing this layout’s weaknesses, which is the untillable green areas and woods, that hinders your crop production, once you upgraded your axe, you can chop down bushes and put buildings in these areas so that you can use this layout in its full potential. Another great benefit of this farm is the free Hardwood that is located in the woods (left side of the farm), not only this will increase your Foraging skill, it will also give you free Hardwood everyday which is an important resource in the long run. So if you wanted to start your first Stardew Valley playthrough, Forest Farm is the best pick.
Hill-top Farm, this farm layout is all about mining. The hill-top farm consist of a considerable amount of farming space, a river to fish in and uneven terrains to utilize, it is a special farm layout for it is the only farm layout which has a free Quarry that produces Ores which can also be found on the mines. As you may know, Ores are resources that is used in things like, tool upgrades and crafting. Hill-top farm is rank the third for it is a challenging farm that gives you room for large crops unlike the Riverland Farm, it also comes with a free river that eliminates the Riverland farm as a primer choice. The hill-top farm, however, is not worth choosing just because of the free Ores located in the Quarry. The Ores in the Quarry only spawn fairly slower and is not viable to create free Ores everyday, the reason why Hill-top Farm is ranked much lower than the Standard and Forest farm.
Finally, Wilderness Farm, this farm is absolutely crazy. It spawns monsters randomly every night when the in-game clock ticks at 6:00PM which attracts leveling up of the Combat skill of the player. This farm has the second largest area of tillable soil and has a huge lake located on the bottom-left corner of the layout, which again, makes Riverland Farm look useless. Although it is a very considerable farm to choose, it is ranked the fourth since it is very hard for player, new players, to navigate their farm due nightfall. Wilderness Golems are unique in this farm layout for it only spawns in your farm and cannot be seen anywhere else. Imagine having to do a lot of things in a day only to die on a monster in the end. Fairly enough, Wilderness Farm becomes the best farm due end game because of the option, unlocked only after finishing the main goal (finishing either the Community Center or Joja Membership Trial), to turn off the spawning of monsters on your farm.
And that’s the end of this review, be sure to remember that this is all just my opinion on each of the farm layout as I experienced them firsthand. Also tell me more if I have ever missed out an otherwise great advantages on the low-ranked farm layouts especially on the Riverland Farm.
